Here's what to actually expect AT your boudoir session! |Atlanta Boudoir Photoshoot

Do you have questions about what to actually expect at your boudoir session?

Besides showing up with a suitcase of little lacy things and leaving with a full face of makeup, there are some extra details that are helpful to know about the actual boudoir photoshoot itself. Each boudoir studio operates a little bit differently, so these details may change depending on which photographer you’re using! Remember to book the experience with the photographer and process that makes you the most comfortable!

Here are a few of our FAQs! To read our full list of boudoir session FAQs click HERE.

Who will be at my session?

Your boudoir session will be a closed event. You and your photographer will be the only people at your session. Should you opt-in for our hair and makeup option then your hair and makeup artist will be there for a few images to make sure that everything looks great on camera!

Where do we even HAVE the session? My house is less than ideal, plus I’d have to make up an excuse to get the kids out of the house.

We totally understand, plus who has the time to clean your house these days? Most sessions take place in our studio in West Midtown Atlanta, but we HAVE photographed in homes, AirBnbs, hotels, and event halls! If we are shooting on-location (not at our studio) we require that we see pictures of the space in order to vet it. I want to make sure I’m not being led into an Indiana Jones-type of lair. I’ve listened to too many crime podcasts to not need to see photos of where I’m going.

How long does a session last?

Our boudoir sessions last anywhere from 2-6 hours depending on which session you choose. I know that’s a big range, but we like options!! While we know you’d love to spend all weekend with us drinking champagne and getting amazing photos, it just isn’t feasible and eventually the champagne runs out anyway.

Can I bring a friend or my significant other?

Unless you are booking a couple’s session we ask that you do not bring any friends or significant others to your session. Our ability to laser focus on capturing gorgeous images of you will be interrupted and definitely lacking. We will spend brain power trying to make sure everyone is comfortable, has enough snacks, isn’t too bored, likes the music, knows where the bathroom is, loves our jokes, doesn’t feel ignored… it’s a whole thing. Let’s just keep it the two of us!

**The exception to that rule is that you can have someone around for hair and makeup, but after that they will need to quietly exit and let us have all of the fun. We have plenty of fun activities for them to do around the studio!

Interested in a shower scene for your boudoir session? Here's a few ideas! | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Our boudoir shoots can include a shower scene, and if you’ve ever been curious about it then read below for more information (and photo examples!).

The definition of ‘boudoir photography’ has seen a huge shift over the recent years, especially here in Atlanta where boudoir photography has traditionally been defined as a sexy gift to give your significant other the night before your wedding (spoiler alert, boudoir has definitely expanded!)

Boudoir was reserved to white lace lingerie, a little something borrowed, a little something blue. It didn’t matter if you looked good in white or not, that’s what you were going to wear. The client would then be posed on the bed, usually in some cute-but-sexy type of pose (think: on the stomach, hands under the chin, feet kicked in the air). Once the photoshoot was complete, the bride would hand the images over to the recipient and then that was the last time she would probably ever think about doing a sexy photoshoot (boudoir or other!) ever again.

Thank fu**ing goodness that we’re out of that era of boudoir! Lately boudoir has evolved into such a wide genre that still has one focus: make the client look/feel as she desires in the privacy of her own bedroom (her boudoir!). Usually this type of shoot requires less clothing than you’d go to the grocery store in, of course, but on occasion it can mean just having some kick-ass images of yourself in your favorite cocktail dress that hits your boobs just right.

Of course, as the definition of boudoir evolves, so do all of the different ways that it can be photographed. About 7 years ago (holy shit!) we started experimenting with adding a ‘wet look’ to our boudoir sessions. I imagined I wanted to photograph our clients in a way that emulated how they fantasized of looking when they were in the shower. I’ve got a fantasy about how I personally look in the shower and it has something to do with the light hitting me just right, my mascara staying put, and not looking like a drowned rat. ;)

In our boudoir studio we have been able to add a shower scene to our sessions (upon request) for clients that are willing to let us mess up the hair and makeup we worked so hard on… the results are always worth it! Check out the below images from our recent boudoir shower scenes… and make sure to check out the links below each photo in case you’d like to snag any of these outfits yourself!
