What do you even WEAR for a boudoir session when lingerie isn't your thing
Does the word ‘lingerie’ instantly make you start sweating and want to change the subject? You’re not alone in getting the shakes once the topic of sheer, lace clothing comes up. Even as a boudoir photographer I get a littler nervous when I’m presented with lingerie in my personal life.
Lingerie (for me) requires me to be in a certain MOOD or headspace. You might say: “Well, Sarah… a boudoir is the perfect MOOD for lingerie to exist!”, and while that statement is true, it isn’t absolute. Boudoir photoshoots do not REQUIRE you to wear lingerie, but if you’re not wearing lingerie then what do you wear for a boudoir session?
Here I am with a few ideas, non of white require underwire or fishnets.
1) A sheer bathing suit coverup … bonus points if it has some fringe or rhinestones on it. These coverups are a great way to show off your figure while ALSO keeping your skin mostly covered. They do not require any nip-slips, and they help conceal any scarring, cellulite, etc that some clients want to avoid.
Here is one of my favorite coverups from Free People, the Filter Finish Slip.
I also love this one from Amazon!
2) A tailored blazer for a structured, editorial, VOGUE style shoot. This is one of my favorite boudoir looks because of how POWERFUL it can be. Looking powerful and confident in your boudoir session is a huge goal for our clients, and there aren’t many better ways than to look like you’re taking over the patriarchy (half naked of course).
Here is one of my favorite blazers from Revolve (the Tilly Blazer from l‘Acadamie), which has a tie in front of it to help with cinching the waist!
I love this blazer from Express, and I ESPECIALLY love that it comes in both hot pink and black!
3) Wide leg denim jeans might not scream “SEXY” to you with regards to boudoir wardrobe, but with a little styling and lighting they are PERFECT! A loose pair of jeans, high waisted or not, will photograph so well and create an incredible air of casual sexiness that I LOVE to photograph! Pair the jeans with a tank top, topless, a bodychain, etc.
I love this pair of wide-leg denim from Dr. Denim (Echo Wide Leg)
Bellbottoms and flare jeans are making a comeback! These are a GREAT way to give curves and accentuate the lines of the body.
