40 and fearless | Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Over the course of the last 5 years I've photographed over 500 women and have had the great privilege of becoming good friends with many of them. Call me crazy, but there is something about stripping down to your lingerie that really brings you close to someone.

The following client interview happens to be one from one of those clients-turned-margarita-partners and when I read through her answers I could absolutely hear her saying them out loud. She is 40 and fearless and one of the most genuine people you'll ever meet! I hope to have half of her confidence and humor one day. For now I'll settle with having her in our lives and hope that some of her magic rubs off on me!

Read on and view on, loves.

-Sarah

1. How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I just turned 40 years old this year and I’m proud to say it!

2. What do you do for a living?

I’m a domestic goddess-i.e., stay-at-home mom.

3. What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I have been wanting to do a boudoir shoot for a few years. However, the stars aligned perfectly this year somehow because OWN came at the right time. Maybe turning 40 made me bolder too!

4. Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

Only felt a little bit nervous the closer the date of the shoot got but no obstacles or “real” fear; I was ready.

5. Why did you choose OWN?

Well, this may sound a bit woo-woo, but I truly feel that OWN chose ME. I sort of put it out there to the Universe that I was finally ready to have a boudoir photo shoot, and a few months later (after my 40th birthday) I was browsing Instagram and found OWN’s IG account. Once I scrolled through the pictures of REAL women looking so fabulous, sexy and sensual (yet timeless and classy) I was like, “That’s it! I’ve found my photographer!”

6. How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

I kind of had an idea of how the photo shoot would go since I had done a pinup-type photo shoot before. But truthfully, the session was even better than any preconceived idea I had in my head. I felt EXTREMELY comfortable from the moment I arrived to Sarah’s studio. Some of my pictures are completely in the nude, and I remember at one point in the shoot Sarah and I took a little snack break and we were chatting away. Suddenly I realized I was still fully naked yet completely comfortable talking to Sarah like it was NO big deal! It takes quite a while for me to be THAT comfortable with someone, but Sarah makes you feel like you’ve known her for years and that you’re BFF’s!

7. What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

I have two favorite moments: the photo shoot itself and the viewing appointment, where I got to see all the pictures for the first time. I was in AWE of how amazing the pictures were and how seriously sexy and hot I looked! I fell in love with my body again, and THAT was priceless to me.

8. How has the response been to your images?

“Those pics are smoking hot, girl!” was one of the reactions I got from a dear friend of mine. In fact, that same friend booked her OWN session after seeing my pictures! My husband was over the moon excited and regardless of him always being complimentary to me and my body, it’s gotten to a WHOLE new level now…if ya know what I mean ;)

9. What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Don’t think twice about it and just book one for yourself! It’s one of THE most empowering things I’ve done in my life.

10. Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Yes, absolutely. My body confidence has soared and I’m less judgmental of my body. I look amazing, I feel amazing, and I AM amazing.

Yo, Chicago! Guess what.... | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

In just two short months I'll be flying from Atlanta, headed to the Golden Circle and the home of some of the most delicious food, beautiful architecture, and ....sexy ladies! This will be my third time in Chicago for boudoir sessions, and I am so excited! I love Atlanta, but Chicago in the summer time is unmatched.

Chicago holds a big piece of my boudoir heart because it's the site of my OWN boudoir session (my first one!) almost 6 years ago. Those images are still displayed proudly in my house for all of my friends and visitors to see. They are great conversation starters ;)

If you'd like a conversation starter of your own, or you know someone that would enjoy a boudoir session with OWN (and happens to be in Chicago) then get in touch with us!!

Dates for Chicago are: August 4-6th! The 5th is fully booked, but there is still availability on the 4th and the 6th!

10 tips to help you prepare for your boudoir session | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

If you've had your boudoir session already, your are having a boudoir session soon, or your are entertaining the thought of having a boudoir session there is one common element of 'panic' that is experienced: Preparation

The. Horror.

Preparing for your boudoir session can be an extremely stressful process... but stress no more as I have created a list of the top tips to help you prepare. Listen, I'm looking out for you and want to make sure you're guided through this experience the whole way through! Of course if you'd like to show up to the boudoir studio blindly just to 'see what happens' then you totally can! It'll be an adventure for both of us, but I can't promise not to put you in one of the old halloween costumes that I have around here.

1) Read through this blog.

Hey look at you, you're checking off that first crucial step! This post will absolutely help, and if you continue on to read other posts you'll find a wealth of information about how to make sure that you are beyond prepared for your boudoir shoot. Of course there are many articles about wardrobe and posing, but you'll also get a feel for my personality and my style of boudoir. Save images that you like, ask me about times of day to shoot, take an emotional journey with me through my mom's breast-cancer diagnoses. No matter what your boudoir questions are, reading and keeping up-to-date with us is the best prep that you can do!

2) Try on your outfits.

You'd be so surprised on how many clients come in for their boudoir session with the majority of their wardrobe still in plastic shipping bags or UPS boxes. Lingerie is so fickle. Straps can twist, necklines can be just a HAIR off, the butt of your underwear can be saggy, or a silhouette can be completely wrong for your body. Trying the lingerie on will help to solve the majority of any avoidable wardrobe problems and give you plenty of time to exchange or return those items that didn't work! If you're unsure of where to even start with wardrobe, or whether or not a lingerie piece is a good fit for you then send us a text/email and we'll help out... it's in everyone's best interest to make sure that you look your best!

3) Talk to us about hair and makeup. Bring in examples of what YOU consider natural/smokey/vintage/etc. Should you be getting your hair/makeup done elsewhere then look to us for tips and suggestions on what will look best!!

Have you ever described an article of clothing/a house/a chair/etc to someone and had a totally different opinion on what the color of that item was? It usually goes something like this:

You: "Oh wow I love that beige colored house!!"

Them: "Beige house? You mean that yellow one?"

You: "What yellow house? I am talking about that one right there on the corner. The beige one."

Them: "Honey boo boo that is yellow."

This is a perfect representation of how conversations can go when talking about hair and makeup. One person's smokey eye is another person's 'vintage cat eye'. One person's 'volume all over' is another person's 'OMG my hair is way too big'. Bring in examples of what you love and we can make sure that we talk in depth about what it takes to create that look for you!

4) Stretch- it's a workout.

No joke. Posing is hard. Not only will you walk away with a new appreciate for anyone that has ever modeled, you'll also walk away a bit sore! You hold awkward contortions for minutes at a time and there is a lot of over-extension of your hips and back. Please stretch! Drink plenty of water! Do NOT over-workout the day before your session. Soreness and stiffness is just going to increase and it can really hinder your ability to do the poses that I ask you to do. Since you're looking to me to make sure you're posed and create those incredible curves then please be prepared to let me mold you like Gumby. :)

5) Make sure your wardrobe is prepared for being photographed. Organize it, steam if needed, hang in a garment bag, etc.

I know that so many of you are trying your hardest to keep this boudoir session a secret. Hell... a lot of you are flying in from out of town in order to have your boudoir photoshoot. You can't exactly have all of your negligees hanging up for all to see and you can't exactly have them unwrinkled from being stuffed in a suitcase. I get it! However, having something balled up in a bag for 3 months is different from having it balled up for 3 days... give your lingerie some breathing room every now and then, but if it is absolutely impossible then let me know! You can always mail your items to the studio and I can hold them here for you :)

6) Make sure all of you is groomed. Photoshop is a poor hair-remover tool, self tanner, and nail technician. Take care of any waxing/plucking/shaving/polishing that you may need. Chemical peels and waxing need to be done a week before.

It'll take a little bit of extra planning, but make sure that you take the time to groom any parts of you that have the potential to be showcased. Waxing/plucking/polishing are just as important as finding the right lingerie for your boudoir session. That being said, only do what you are comfortable with! Do not feel like you need to come in hairless or with a french manicure. This session is about your OWN beauty, and it is important that you still retain your individuality!

7) Look up directions, pre-plan your route, take down addresses and phone numbers.

At this point it is hard to predict whether or not Atlanta will still be standing since all of our roads are starting to collapse, but that is even more reason to make sure that you plan your route! While we do our best to provide detailed directions to the studio, you'll be far less stressed out on the day of your shoot if you know where you're going :)

8) Make sure to wear loose clothing.

Come dressed in clothing that doesn't make heavy marks in your skin, impressions from jeans/yoga pants/sports bras/etc can take a long time to disappear. If you're coming straight from work or if for some reason it is impossible to come dressed in a mumu then bring a change of clothes with you that we can immediately put on! Marks in the skin have definitely been a part of boudoir sessions before.... but they are a different kind of mark :)

9) Pack extra everything.

Thigh highs rip, lingerie shrinks, shirts get stained, and somedays we just feel 'blah' in an outfit that used to make us walk as tall as Gisele. For this reason I recommend packing extra everything. Bring more thigh-highs, bring a couple of extra outfit changes, pack your own makeup, bring an extra pair of earrings. We don't want to let anything get in the way of you looking incredible!!

10) Trust us.

Above all, this is the most important part of your shoot. Posing will feel awkward, makeup may feel too heavy, and it's odd to have someone strapping a garter belt under your butt. Remember that all of these things are part of the process of ensuring that you have the most gorgeous boudoir images ever. I'll never let you take a bad picture, but that might mean that you're twisted in a pretzel with your gut hanging out on one side. However, I'll take the picture and show you the back of my camera and you'll

Meanwhile at the new studio... | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

This time last week I was fully engulfed in the new studio's very first official photoshoot. It's a pretty stark contrast to what I am currently doing, which is writing this blog post from a rooftop bar in Athens, Greece. I tend to take vacations in either the winter or early summer because the rest of the year is full of boudoir. It works out well because I get to beat the crowds and airfare tends to be super-cheap.

Anyway... back on topic (and away from the conversation about the hot greek guys that I've been flirting with).

Since the new studio is going to be the main studio for when I return, I wanted to show off some of the shots from the inaugural boudoir shoot. Of course, since this shoot has happened I have acquired an amazinggggg sofa (pictured below!) and cannot wait to add more pieces. Is there a furniture set or piece that you'd like to see me work with? Holler at me ;)

"Everything has changed." | Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

It's that time again, time to read and relate to a wonderful woman that has gone through the boudoir experience. Again, I am always tempted to try and convince people about what "prancing around in lingerie" (direct quote from someone) is ACTUALLY about... but the purpose and residual effects come across much more genuine and believable when you hear for someone that opted-in.

This interview is no different. I've loved being her friend and watching her start her 'new' life. Read on about her experience, written in detail, and about how everything has changed.

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I' newly 33 lol

2) What do you do for a living?

Account manager

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I'm getting married in April, and I wanted to do this for my fiancé's wedding present.

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

So many!! I was worried I would only see my flaws in the pictures, that then there was the lingerie part! I was terrified of posing in lingerie in front of a camera.

5) Why did you choose OWN?

After seeing Cassie's pictures, I totally IG-stalked the OWN page. Every picture was phenomenal. I went to the page and was impressed with the beauty in every picture. When I saw the women were not the same thin fitness queens I see on magazine covers, I was sold!

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

The biggest difference was how comfortable I was. Sarah and I laughed a lot. She coached and encouraged. She was positive and was a joy to be around! Brielle did my makeup and hair, the first time I had ever had my makeup done. It was like meeting a team that knew you better than you know yourself.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Seeing the images was by far my favorite. It is the first time in my entire life I looked at myself and said "that beautiful girl in the picture is me!" And there were tears. But the entire session...the planning, the shoot, and especially seeing the final product was all this incredible experience! The funniest part was Sarah helping me figure out this bralette piece I had because it wrapped around, and I could not for the life of me figure it out! lol

8) How has the response been to your images?

Amazing!! I've showed friends and the comments of "these are great! You look fantastic!" Are different because I believe them!

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

DO IT!! Do it for yourself. It's powerful and life changing. Be open to it...the suggestions, the advice, the posing, all of it.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Everything changed. I might not look like the corset clad model I did in my pictures every day, but knowing she's a part of me has changed me. I'm kinder to myself. I don't immediately see my flaws when I look in the mirror. I speak to myself with love, and I know I can be a better role model for my daughter about self love and acceptance of one's body. When my fiancé tells me I'm beautiful, I believe him and not just because he sees me as beautiful but because I know I am. It took my 33 years to see beauty in me, and I will treasure this for the rest of my life. Sarah and her team gave me a gift that is priceless, and I'm grateful to them every day for that gift.

Did you know? | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

While I feel like I have made this information known, I feel like I *always* think that I say things. You all have those days... we dream about conversations and those conversations seem so real that we are nearly 100% sure we had them. I've definitely woken up mad at my partner for something he did in a dream.

Well, if this is repetitive information to you then I am totally sorry. However, I'll thank you for stopping by to entertain my blog-content anyways :) The info is: Did you know that we have plenty of pieces in the studio for you to use during your boudoir session? You have enough pressure preparing to be scantily clad in front of a camera.. let's not add pressure by making you shop on your own. The pieces that I carry in-studio are curated and carefully selected. I know that they will look great with your height, skin tone, haircut, mom-pouch, and body curves. Are you looking for something in particular? Just ask!

Check out this GORGEOUS robe I secured from Trashy Diva in New Orleans! They've also just opened a brick-and-mortar store in Atlanta in the Poncey Highlands area!

"I wasn't sure this was something I'd be able to do..." | Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

This has to be one of my favorite client interviews to-date because of the honesty and vulnerability that comes through her answers. I love that she admits her fears and reservations about having her photos taken, and I equally love the mention of support from her husband. It's pretty common for my clients to want to create a gift for their significant others, but when the significant other is the instigator of the boudoir session it can often create an entirely different dynamic. I'm so proud of her for conquering her nerves and opening herself up to this experience!

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

The big 4-0.

2) What do you do for a living?

I am currently a stay-at-home-mom and part-time photographer.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

My husband had been asking me for years to book a session...I figured my 40th was as good a time as any to try it out. After having my middle child, I was finally able to have a mostly good relationship with my body. Through seeing the drastic ways my body could change, and give life, I got to a place where I learned to love all of the scars and muscles that I've accumulated over the years because they tell my story.

atlanta boudoir photographer, boudoir session, boudoir photography, boudoir gift, anniversary gift, own boudoir

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I wasn't sure it was something I would be able to do...while I'm totally comfortable in my own skin in my house, baring it all is not something I do for anyone other than my husband. But I'd been following Sarah's work for over a year and I felt confident the photos would be tasteful (and amazing!).

5) Why did you choose OWN?

Boudoir photos are not something I usually take notice of, and definitely not something I'd ever consider doing. But Sarah's style is so artistic and natural that I've always been drawn to it.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

It was pretty much what I expected because I did a lot of research first. Sarah made me feel very relaxed (as relaxed as you can be wearing next to nothing in front of a stranger) and gave me constant feedback so I knew exactly what she needed me to do for each shot.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Definitely seeing the images...it's crazy empowering and like a present to yourself when you see how amazing they look! But it was very closely followed by 'teasing' the images, a few each day, to my husband over the course of the following week. Especially when I'd text one to him when I was not with him but I could see his face. Total jackpot :)

8) How has the response been to your images?

Honestly, I've only shown my husband, but he has absolutely loved them!

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

I'd say go for it...whether for you or your significant other, it is not something you'll regret! It's something I definitely hope to do again sometime!

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Yes! The session reminded me how beautiful my body can be. I feel like the photos probably represent what my husband sees when he looks at me (rather than the distorted image I, like most women, see when I look in the mirror). After the session I felt that not only was my body strong, but it could be sexy too. As a very small-chested girl, I sometimes get hung up on not feeling feminine enough, but this session changed that!

Nighttime boudoir | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Typically nighttime boudoir sessions are a huge part of my schedule during the winter months. With the sun starting to set around 4:30pm it makes it almost impossible to NOT encounter some sort of nighttime shoot.

Of course, when the summer months hit and the sun plays like the friend that has stayed at the party too long... it can be a little harder to schedule those darker shoots. That being said: they are still an option and are in full swing! Scheduling for later in the day is a fantastic way too ensure a completely different look to your boudoir photos. Nighttime sessions also allow you to put the kids to bed and 'peace out' without them asking any questions ;)

Check out this recent Nighttime boudoir session, this is her second time around and we opted for a bad-ass-bitch theme:

I am not alone | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

If you've spent more than 5 minutes with me over the last 5 months then you've heard me talk excitedly about my newfound single-hood. There has been a LOT of traveling, in fact one of my BFFs asked me if I even lived in Atlanta anymore. (The answer is 'yes' I do still live in Atlanta, and I also live at the Atlanta airport. Shout out to the SkyClub at concourse B!)

This stage in my life has been named and re-named a few times and to be completely forward with you guys.. the current operating title is 'Hoe phase'. ;) I'm out there letting my freak flag fly and enjoying every minute of it. Don't get me wrong, cashing 'flirt' checks isn't how I fill the entirety of my time, but it holds a pretty big piece of the pie-chart.

For the first time in five and a half years I am living life on my own, but I am not 'alone'.

I'll admit that even though my relationship ended amicably, at first I was a little bitter and lost. My ex got to 'keep' our circle of friends. He 'got' to keep the apartment. Outside of no longer having me in his life (which as we all know is a terrible thing since I am so amazing hahahahaha) it seemed as if he didn't really have anything that changed. He owns a lot of clothes so at the very best he got to take over a second closet. I was the one that was immediately thrown into finding a new circle of friends, creating new routines, and frequenting foreign coffee shops.

It took me all of about a week to get over the feeling of eye-rolling bitterness. To my surprise, the relationships and experiences that I have had over the last 5 months have been extraordinary. It really is fascinating the experiences that are easy to say 'YES' to when you have zero commitments telling you to say 'NO'. Of course right now my only voice-of-no is my wallet ;) I've met more people, travelled to more places, and tried more new experiences than I did in five and a half years.

I say this to say. I am not 'alone'.

A girlfriend and I had dinner a few months ago and she asked me if I was worried that I had spent 5years of my life with someone and had to 'start over' by being alone in my 30s. Let's all give her a bit of grace and assume she didn't mean that in a completely demeaning way. Had I not known this girl for 25 years I probably would have been offended, but I wasn't. There are as many different values as there are people in this world, and I've never been one to really have a romantic relationship as a top value.

The idea of not really caring either way about having a relationship with someone else is a foreign concept to some. With regards to the subject of boudoir, I'm often met with puzzled faces when I mention that a boudoir session is often done because my clients want the photos for 'just' themselves.

"Just".

Fuck that word.

"Just" yourself is enough. There is no one on this earth that you should love and honor more than yourself. It is wonderful to love someone else and to be loved by someone else, but you are also enough when you are "just" you. If you aren't in a romantic partnership you are not alone. I am not alone. If you ARE in a romantic partnership, you are not alone. I am not alone. We are living our lives. We may go to bed solo or *feeling* solo, but we are not alone. We have a world of common interests (I mean, you are reading this blog... presumably with like ONE other person) that gives us community.

My girlfriend I was talking about is constantly trying to hook me up with any single male she meets.

"Just go on ONE date" she says.

"I do not want to date anyone" I say.

"Just ONE" she says.

::there's that word 'just' again::

"I do not want to date anyone" I repeat.

"Ok well keep thinking about it" she forces.

::eye roll::

I am not alone. I am ME. And I am enough. You are not alone. You are YOU. And you are enough.

And because I guess I am a photographer, here are some pics of me at some of my sessions... every image was taken for me and "just" me "alone". ;)

When "Damn, Girl!" is the only phrase that works | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

There is something I must admit to: I'm a glutton for hearing my clients brag about their images to others and to me. As human beings I think all of us secretly love to be over-the-top praised and affirmed :) "Tell me again how wonderful I am?"... If anyone wants to tell me how great I am then I'll be all ears! Don't judge me.

However, recently my itch for affirmation has been scratched not only by hearing these women gush over their images but by hearing how my clients have been inspired to create their OWN version of empowering women to own who they are and be their own true self. This client interview is a fantastic example of someone taking their boudoir session experience and turning it  into a way to inspire others.

Read on!

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I'm 30. At age 14 I was listening to Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and Britney Spears!!

2) What do you do for a living?

I work as a Managing Director for an Education Nonprofit.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I'd always wanted to do it. I love classic lingerie, and I thought doing a session as a gift to my husband for our first anniversary would be really spicy.

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

Yeah. I was worried being plus size that I just wouldn't look as hot as the thinner girls. I was dead wrong, and quite smoking in the final pics!

5) Why did you choose OWN?

One of my close girlfriends did a shoot with OWN as her groom's gift for her wedding. When she shared the book with me, I couldn't BELIEVE how amazing she looked. There are lots of photographer who do boudoir in my city, but NONE near the quality of OWN. I drove 12 hours in one day just to come down to shoot and it was SO worth it!

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

I had no expectations--I had no idea what it would be like, but I was so comfortable the entire time. There was champagne, chocolate covered almonds (my fave), and lots of Beyonce. All I needed to get in the mood! :)

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (primping, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Seeing the images was my favorite part. I was so nervous that I may have made a huge investment and hate all the photos, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth. I had trouble narrowing down my image choices to just 25 because I loved so many!

8) How has the response been to your images?

"DAMN GIRL!"

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Go for it. You will have no regrets. I literally want to show everyone and post all my pictures online-ha!

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Oh yes---I realized that I was smokin', and now that I'm not so camera shy, I'm actually working on launching my own plus sized fashion blog!

Shower sessions | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Last year I had an idea to start incorporating water into some of my boudoir sessions. The idea manifested itself in a few mini-session experiments that I specifically scheduled in order to feel out how exactly to hose my clients down while keeping hair/makeup intact. The resulting images were some of my favorite images that I've ever taken and deserved an immediate post on social media (like any great selfie or kick-ass picture).

Over the last year I've gotten a plethora of requests for the 'wet look' as a part of their boudoir sessions. It's quite fun to climb into the shower with $5000 worth of camera equipment and spray away the 2hr hair/makeup job that we just perfected. Someone needs to film me for the awesome behind the scenes look.

Here is a favorite from one of last week's sessions!

Naked nerves... a new client interview | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

You guessed it... it's that time again! I know you're curious about how 'real live' women actually feel during their boudoir sessions. The poses. The wardrobe changes. The lady-parts grooming. The nakedness. The fact that you can't seem to take a decent selfie even after 153 tries.

Do not fret.

It's almost everyday that someone says to me 'I just hope I look like the models on your website!!!'. Well, spoiler alert, people... no one on this website is a model! I love models a lot, and full disclosure: every client walks away with ultra respect for models, but that's a different story.

We aren't walking NYFW (not that we couldn't) and we aren't pros at 'finding your light' or 'smizing'. This is why I love these client interviews... you can get a glimpse into the super-common lives of each and every woman that has gotten OWNed lately :)  Also I can't take credit for the pun, a fabulous client came up with it and it is awesome.

Read on to find out more about this lovely lady and her experience ...

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I am 30

2) What do you do for a living?

I am in software, I am a Senior QE Manager

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

Initially, my boyfriend (ex-boyfriend now) suggested that I do a photo shoot. But the more I researched it, I really got into it and it started to become something that I was doing for myself. I saw it as a way to boost my confidence - an adventure.

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I was initially nervous about being naked but after reviewing all the photos on the site I really believed that Sarah would make me look great.

5) Why did you choose OWN?

I researched several places but after seeing OWN it was clear that it was the best place for boudoir photos. The photos on the shoot were higher quality than other sites. Additionally, the letter that Sarah writes on the site really spoke to me. It was all about women empowerment.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

While doing makeup, it felt like just me and friends hanging out. We talked about boys and I instantly felt comfortable. The shoot was serious business, lol. I had never done a shoot before, and to be honest some of those poses hurt..lol. But, the results were amazing. I never knew, I could look so good. Additionally, after each pose Sarah was so encouraging and helped to keep my confidence up throughout the shoot.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

My favorite part was seeing the images. I was absolutely shocked at how great the images came out. I just couldn't believe it was me.

8) How has the response been to your images?

I have showed the pictures to my girlfriends and a few guys, all have absolutely loved the photos. One guy even told me that I should consider a career in modeling after seeing the photos.

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Do it! It will be a huge boost to your confidence. Also, it is something you will have for the rest of your life. It is much better to look back at these photos instead of an old yearbook photo.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

I walked away feeling more confident.

Break the rules a little bit | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Who says your lingerie has to 'match' during your boudoir session? While I would love to wear matching sets every day of the week, let's be honest – matching sets are rare and they usually happen on very, very, verrrrrrrryyyy special occasions (if you know what I mean ;))

Now, your boudoir session is definitely a special occasion, and it's something that you want to look your best for... but you can look your best and break the 'matching' rule all at the same time! I love the look of mis-matched pieces! It adds a subtle air of spontaneity and naturalness to the images. It's as if the camera found you on any given day of the week. A true example of the "I woke up like this" :)

Making it your OWN | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Did you know that your OWN boudoir session can look like whatever the f*** you want it to look like? This is about you. This is about your OWN beauty, your OWN sensuality, your OWN person.

Go the lingerie route, let's do artistic nudes, bring in your handcuffs, let's throw on a soft robe, seduce in a sweatshirt, or... brush some paint on it. :) Let's have fun making images that represent you.

This image was taken at this client's 3rd boudoir session at my Atlanta studio! We added gold paint to her body for a unique twist that highlights her curves! Slip/tank is from FreePeople.

We can play around, too! | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Your boudoir session doesn't have to be all lingerie, it also doesn't have to have clothing involved at ALL. In fact, let's throw the clothes out of the window and bring in some paint instead. Deal?

I loved creating this image with my client. She brought in blacklight bulbs and glow-in-the-dark paint so that we could create some alternative boudoir imagery. The end result is absolutely amazing and I want to paint bodies all. day. long. Of course I then want to photograph them :)

Maybe I need to explore Atlanta in order to find a studio that I can get really messy in!

This is where you should be shopping for lingerie | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Where do you even shop for underwear that is pretty, looks great on your contorted and posed body, and is also not stupidly trendy and dated?

Girl, I'm glad you asked! We've come up with a list of the top places that never fail when it comes to outfitting you for your boudoir session. A few of them have brick-and-mortars here in Atlanta (as well as other cities) and a few are online only! When coming up with this list we considered a variety of things that are important with regards to lingerie shopping.

1) There is a wide range of specific sizing available, not just S-M-L-XL. Tailored sizing is so important... it can be the difference between boobs-to-the-knees and perkiness.

2) Styles on these sites are not exactly 'trendy'. I say that to mean that you'll be able to look back at these images without immediately recognizing the year/decade they were taken. We are looking to make sure that your boudoir images stay relevant and classy.

3) These sites/stores have AMAZING shipping/return/exchange policies. It can be so hard to shop online or in-store and know exactly the size/style you're looking for. These sites allow for the freedom of buying multiple styles and sizes without the risk of not being able to return them. I shop on ASOS.com allllllllllllllllllll of the time and I will order 5 of the same thing because WHO EVEN KNOWS what size will fit...and they offer free returns. You need that freedom in your life.

4) Styles are unique. This is incredibly important because I don't want you to try and fit your beautifully unique personality into some generic mass-produced rhinestone push-up bra. All of these places offer unique styles to fit your personality. You will find sweet, salty, kinky, F***ed up, playful, etc. Let all of the shades of your personality shine :)
