Recovery | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Welp... this weekend was an exciting time for Atlanta (and everyone else that hates the Patriots). The entire Sunday was full of incredible energy and spirit! Of course... that ended in a fiery crash of disappointment. Ugh. The mental hangover (and the wine hangovers) are real.

Let's all just hope we look this good as we recover.

Oh hey there, brand new week!!! After an exciting weekend visiting the plains and oil fields (just kidding, I didn't visit an oil field) I wanted to share a sneak peek of one of our gorgeous boudoir shoots from Oklahoma City! Shout out to the 21C Hotel in Oklahoma for providing an incredible backdrop, and for Torrid for the incredible lingerie!!!

Strap up for the weekend | Atlanta boudoir photography

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

There are some weeks that come together in the oddest and most unique ways..

For this week, every client brought in something related to straps. Now, this could have been a strappy bra (as seen below), a set of straps to *ahem* use in the bedroom, a pair of ridiculously gorgeous and strappy heels that would have dominated on the red carpet (and also made my feet fall asleep)... or simple a motorcycle helmet that my client had to STRAP on. Obviously I was reaching for that last one.

Regardless, I love it when a week's full of boudoir sessions comes together under one common theme.

So, in the spirit of the straps: buckle-up, strap-up, whatever... and enjoy your weekend!!!

Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

One of my favorite lines from this client interview is that she said "All of my fears were put to rest".

We work really hard to make sure that you don't leave nearly as terrified as you probably were when you walked into the studio. From showing you images THAT DAY to making sure you were heard in the weeks leading up to the shoot, we are serious over-communicators and over-complimenters.

Don't believe me? Send us an email. Count the exclamation points. Print out the paragraphs. I think we write every client a novella. All of this is for you, so that you have the same (or better!) experience than you'll read about below.

Read on... :)

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I was 40 at the time of the photo shoot

2) What do you do for a living?

I am a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist)

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

At 40 years old, I finally feel confident and sexy in my own skin and I wanted to document this year for myself.  Surprising my husband with the book of sexy photos was another fun reason too!!

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I was a little nervous about how comfortable I would feel being semi and/or fully nude in front of someone I had just met.  All my fears were put to rest, though, once I met Sarah.  She was like a good friend I had known forever!  I was also concerned that I wouldn’t be able to “have that sexy look” without laughing or looking goofy, but Sarah knows exactly how to coach you through the process and ends up with the most AMAZING photos!!

5) Why did you choose OWN?

I chose OWN because of the obvious quality of the work I saw online.  I loved the classy studio, the way that each of the clients looked in their photos, and the obvious comfort that each person had.  I couldn’t wait to see what kind of magic she produced during my session!

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

I was WAY more comfortable than I thought I would be!!  I think the champagne helped a little too….that was such a treat.  Also, the session itself was tiring.  I have a new respect for lingerie models now.  Getting into some of the poses, and holding them while Sarah shoots the photos is an actual workout!  Now I know why she advises people to eat before they come.  It is hard work and you will need your energy…..but SOOOO fun at the same time!!

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Doing the shoot was super fun (I felt sexy the rest of the week after it was over), but seeing the images when they were finished was definitely the BEST part.  My husband’s face was a close 2nd when I presented him with the photos!!

atlanta boudoir photographer, seattle boudoir photographer, houston boudoir photographer, best boudoir, sensual photographer, risque photography (10 of 10).jpg

8) How has the response been to your images?

Every single person I’ve shown the images to has asked for the name of the person who did them.  They have all said that these photos could be used in a magazine!

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Just DO IT!!!!  Don’t wait until you lose 10 more pounds, or have a little tan, or wait until your hair grows out a little.  Do it right now!!  Sarah is a magician and will make you look amazing, despite any little imperfections that every single woman worries about.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Seeing myself in some of these photos made see myself in a different light.  Seeing the different angles and shape of my body from a different perspective was eye opening and has made me have more confidence in myself.  I honestly never knew I could look like that!!

Boudoir props: It's not science. | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Top (hat) o’ the week to ya! Say that in whatever accent you choose :)

But, no, really.... Miss B brought a TOP hat to her session (that was a first, but I loved it!). I wondered if it had special meaning to her, if she was a part-time magician, etc., and she simply said “Saw it on my floor on my way out the door and thought it looked cool!’. I mostly have US Weekly and bubble wrap on my floor, but I’m sure we could find some way to make it ‘hot’.  The point is, the thing you bring doesn’t have to be special and you don’t have to overthink it.. it can just be something fun, simple, and random.

Of course... there are manyyyyy additional props that have been brought in to studio outside of this top-hat number. For instance... check out this corded phone (wait, WHAT?! yep, they still exist).

Do I have to go nude for my boudoir shoot?

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

‘I don’t want to show anything’

‘Do I have to be nude?’

‘I cannot be nude for my shoot, just in case these ever get out… My family/church/kid’s teachers/law firm would freak the F*** out.’

‘No nudes, please, I’m not that comfortable. I know that I look better in clothing.’

‘My fiancé hasn’t seen me naked yet, and I want to wait for that.’

‘My C-section scar shows and my boobs are more than deflated, I would prefer to be a bit covered.'

These are some of the word-for-word sentences that I see every day from clients. There are more, but generally they say the same thing: “Please don’t make me be naked!!!!’.

I realize that boudoir photography has a tendency to not only excite you because ‘HOLY S*** THAT CAN BE ME’ but also terrify you because ‘HOLY S*** THAT CAN BE ME!’. It’s easy to see images on Pinterest, on Instagram, and even on my website that you lovelovelovelovelove aside from one thing: nudity. That 'nudity' thing has you hesitating and questioning whether or not you can or should even consider a boudoir session. After all, after seeing 938 images of Pinned nude women (maybe covered by a dish towel), it is hard to imagine your boudoir session including any kind of clothing at all.

boudoir atlanta, boudoir posing ideas, boudoir ideas, boudoir session, atlanta boudoir, boudoir lingerie, boudoir photographer, atlanta boudoir photographer, lingerie, nude plus size african american woman boudoir image loft atlanta chicago photographer boudoir lace lingerie

You know what?

It’s possible!!!

Yep, for sure. Totally do-able, and not ONLY it is do-able…. it can actually be MORE than do-able (just do-able sounds like a compromise). No-nude boudoir is STUNNING.

Suggestion is everything.

Let that shoulder shine.

Oh lady, your LEGS!!

Whoa your boobs look great in that bra.

Holy shit your hosiery hits you just right.

Damnnnnnnnn that robe is suggestive.

Your corset is incredibly flattering.

Nudity is not a requirement.

Let that sink in, and let it calm you.

Nudity is NOT a requirement. You and I will work together, along with Kelsey (my client manager and wardrobe designer extraordinaire) to design a wardrobe set that highlights your best assets. We’ll instruct you on colors and fabrics, cuts and silhouettes. I will never pressure you to be nude, and honestly….. nudity is not always the best option.

After your session is booked you’ll have a questionnaire from me that asks about your preferences for nudity (among other things, like snacks). If you ask me to push you then I WILL push you, because that’s what you asked for. However, I will never force you into a position or exhibition that you are not comfortable with.

implied nudity woman back boudoir image victoria's secret

So, that being said. Be honest and be you. A completely covered confident woman is better than a nude and shaking nervous woman.

Love you guys.

(For the record, I only want to be nude about 300 days after my last cheese-dip consumption or 1 day after my last Hot Yoga class….which for the record has not occurred in the last 15 years).

**Have you heard? I'm on tour this year! That's right, this Atlanta boudoir photographer is headed your way (probably). I'll be photographing women for their boudoir sessions in Vegas, Chicago, New York, London, Miami, and New Orleans. Are you looking to make a trip? Turn it into a long weekend... or maybe plan your vacation around me! Know someone in those areas? Give them my info. You'll be loved forever.

I bet you've been wondering about these questions | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Unless you're like me, chances are a boudoir session isn't something you see or do every day. Heck, I don't even 'do' a boudoir session every day. If it IS something that you do every day, then why are you reading this? You know everything! Shoo!

I kid.

Most of my clients, be it here in Atlanta, midtown Manhattan, or downtown Chicago have come in to a boudoir session being on the edge of clueless. Have no fear, people! We're here for ya!

Here are some FAQ's that you may be thinking or may not think to ask that will be helpful when you've got boudoir on the brain:

atlanta bodoir photographer, natural hair, best atlanta boudoir, classy boudoir groom's gift white button down_0054.jpg
  1.  Where are we doing this?

    • Piedmont park. Just kidding- Most boudoir sessions take place in my studio in midtown Atlanta :)  When I travel for sessions I will book a studio or a shooting space at my discretion, although anyone (here or there!) with an awesome idea for a shooting location can absolutely let me know! I've photographed at hotels (like the above image), private homes, and secluded beaches and parks. There will be music, even if I have to sing it, your beverage of choice, and a lot of awkward posing that miraculously looks like a photoshoot for Vouge.
  2. How many changes of clothes should I bring?

    • While the amount of wardrobe that we'll use for your session varies on the type of package we book for you, I always recommend bringing 2 additional wardrobe changes in case something doesn't work out. My client manager, Kelsey, will assist you almost immediately after booking with what to wear and where to shop. We'll curate your wardrobe for you BEFORE you arrive so that you aren't stuck backing up a U-Haul full of Nordstrom bags to my studio door. I also have a boudoir closet in-studio and that I tote with me from city to city. You are welcome to substitute your wardrobe with anything from my collection!
  3. Will it just be the two of us during the shoot?  Assistants or anyone else there?

    • Usually it will just be the two of us, but occasionally Ryan Gosling stops by. :)
  4. How much "airbrushing" do you do?

    • I like some airbrushing, but I won't make you look unrecognizable. I am no stranger to stretch marks, c-section scars, liposuction scars, battle wounds, cellulite, pocks, or accident marks. Life throws things at us all of the time and sometimes our bodies get caught in the middle. It'll be up to you on what I do and don't take out. Once your session is booked, or even before, just let me know if there is anything you'd like for me to pay attention to.
  5. I bought this corset kind of thing...can you help me get into it if I can't get in myself?

  • In shorter terms: Yes. It's my job to be there for you to figure out which strap goes where, whether or not your lingerie is upside down, and to staple you in to a corset if I need to. I can help you get into anything. We'll be really close by the end of the shoot.

Question of the day: Can I bring a friend to my boudoir session?

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

This is a frequently asked question, and the answer is SURE!

However...

Your boudoir session is not the place to bring the critical (or overly honest) friend (those are awesome to have in some cases, but not in the boudoir shoot!). You want to bring a friend who will be your cheerleader, support you and encourage you! You don't want a distraction, the friend who will only be talking about their boy drama, telling stories about themselves, or making cringe faces while you're getting your makeup done because they don't like a certain eyeshadow.

Bring the friend who will make you laugh, tell you how beautiful you look, and remind you why you're doing this for yourself!

..And should she decide (in advance) that she wants to do a session as well, you can both do them the same day and each receive a discount towards your session! Party time!

And as always, some eye candy for you, just because:

Boudoir for two? | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Call it a residual effect of having spent part of Thanksgiving in Seattle... but my recent boudoir photos have been quite moody. I've found myself a bit more attached the the darker shadows, grain, and grayness. In fact, after typing that out I realize that I *must* be influenced by the Seattle vibes (Google 'Seattle' weather' for clarity). I'm ok with that.

As the winter season approaches and the gray settles in I really look forward to shooting. Recently a past client came into the studio to let me experiment with a few different settings and poses in my new studio. I've loved working with her in the past and this time she brought me a little surprise. She was pregnant! Woot woot! Let's do some dark and emotionally sensual images because WHY NOT? Start that baby off with some attitude. Since she ALSO used to work around the music industry I feel like this photography session is only making her baby way cooler.

Heading to Houston (among other places)! | Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Looking ahead at the next year, even though it is only August, I can see that my boudoir session travel schedule is already filling up! Specifically for January I'll be in Houston AND in Portland!

Come see me for your own Texas-sized boudoir session (that's where everything is BIGGER, though I haven't really figured out how to interpret that quite yet... but I promise to only make certain parts of you look bigger) in Houston. Another idea? let's drive 30 minutes outside of the city and make our way to Galveston! Beach boudoir anyone?

For those interested in seeing what the beautiful Pacific Northwest has to offer for your boudoir session come see me in Oregon! I'll be in the Portland area for a few days in January as well as making my way to the coast. The Oregonian coast might as well be an undiscovered land mass it's so deserted. This makes for an amazing private opportunity for a usually public outdoor boudoir session.

Should you be in any of those areas in January, or you know of friends that would be interested in a boudoir session in that area please get in touch! It's a rare opportunity to have a unique setting for your boudoir session!

A little experimentation | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

From the very first second my clients inquire about a boudoir session I want them to know that I am pretty much down to try any idea that they have.

In the past few years I've gotten to collaborate with clients on a variety of their 'crazy' ideas. Of course the suggestion always starts with "Hey... this might sounds weird, but....." And I always say "NO THAT ISN'T WEIRD!! LET US COMMENCE!". We've been able to incorporate food (pizza and cupcakes!), whips, feathered wings, canes, top hats, body paint...and now BLACK LIGHTS and body paint!!!

Check this out :) Big props to this amazing woman for bringing in an idea and letting me run with it.

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Yes, yes... I understand that the definition of 'boudoir' is "a woman's private room", but that definitely doesn't really go on to describe the room (or the boudoir, if you please). So for a bit, let's explore our imaginations and dream up what our ideal "woman's private room" would look like.

For me?  I have constructed this list of non-negotiables. We'll title it: Sarah's Boudoir, and these qualities are in no particular order.

1) Black-out curtains

2) Unlimited champagne

3) Bravo and HGTV

4) The perfect temperature at all times (this obviously would fluctuate based on the season but this room would be smart enough to know exactly how hot or cold I wanted it to be)

5) Fluffy slippers

6) Fluffy carpet

7) A bomb-ass shower that didn't take 45min for the water to heat up

8) Glowing light so that I looked beautiful at all times of the day

Speaking of that shower.... my new studio has a killer shower in it and I've enjoyed getting to play around with a few experimental images! If you're up for it, I'd love to use the shower in your future session!

Client Interview: "I... have nothing to hide." | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Though I could talk on and on (and on and on and on and on) about why I know that a boudoir session will not be nearly as hive-inducing as you would believe, the best way for you to gain a bit more courage to have your OWN session is for you to read about another's experience.

It is so often that I get the question about whether or not the women only website are models. You can read more about that here. While my clients are not technically models at the start of their session, when their images are ready for viewing they may decide on a career change :)

Read on to see how this real-life person handled her boudoir session, coming out more confident; a woman with nothing to hide.

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)? My age is less embarrassing than my music selection. 33

2) What do you do for a living? Attorney

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?
I was getting married and in better shape than I have been for years. A few of my friends had done boudoir and loved it. I wanted to do it for myself as a confidence boost, but also to give a gift to my new husband. He is obsessed with the photos. I took your advice to text him one on the hour every hour. I sent him one of me in the doggie position right before we walked down the aisle. He said it was the best gift he has ever received!!

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir? No

5) Why did you choose OWN? Because a friend of mine used the studio and her pictures were AMAZING. She said it was so comfortable and relaxed despite getting half naked in front of a stranger, so I knew it was the best choice for me.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)? Yes I was actually relieved that you told me what to do. I am a moron in front of the camera and I had no clue what to do. I was so glad that you directed me.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc) The shoot!. It was the sexiest and most confident I have ever felt. Second best was giving the images because I knew other than you and me, it was for my husband's eyes and I wanted him to have that.

8) How has the response been to your images? Well judging by the fact that he made a slideshow of my images as the screensaver on our tv... I would say pretty damn good.

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session? Don't hesitate!! Do this for yourself. You will never forget how confident and sexy you felt. It is the best gift you Can give yourself

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session? Yes. I felt more confident in sex and just in walking around my house. I feel like I have nothing to hide!

When the light hits perfectly | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Yesterday I had some killer light in the studio. Since this is still only my 3rd week working out of the new space I am in a constant state of discovering the best places to shoot. To me, EVERY single corner is a gem :) Apologies to future clients for squealing every time they take a step.

Here is one of my favorite images from yesterday. Fan blowing, light shining... I call this image: "Just standing here very naturally like I do every single day." :)

Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Hellloooooo there! Do you ever wish you could see into the lives of the very women that grace my website? They aren't models (yet), they are moms, doctors, students, paralegals, microbiologists, travelers, writers, lawyers, musicians, non-profit CEOs, and retail managers. They love tacos, carbs, their kid's soccer team (sometimes), an occasional gym class, sleeping, wine juice boxes, reality TV, dressing up or down, and privacy.

Getting to interview my clients after their boudoir session let's me continue my relationship with them while also being super nosy. I guess it also allows me to be super helpful to you that are interested in even possibly-sometimes-maybe-kind-of considering hitting the 'contact' button and getting in touch with me.

Today's interview is for all of you ladies that get lost in the busyness of life and need a little reminder that you've got so much to offer:

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I am 28!

2) What do you do for a living?

I am a genetics graduate student.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I wanted to do something nice for myself and something that would make me feel beautiful. I've seen pictures of boudoir images online and I thought, "I don't need a reason to do that!", so I signed up! I loved my session, it totally went beyond my expectations!

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I was a little fearful about being naked in front of someone I don't know. However, Sarah made it a very comfortable atmosphere. She was so encouraging and loving, it didn't feel weird at all once you got into it. I was also fearful about my images coming out awkward. I thought that I would make weird faces or my images wouldn't be sexy at all....but I was so wrong!

5) Why did you choose OWN?

I really like Sarah's style. I feel like they are beautiful and artistic images that you would want to display in your home. I think Sarah has a style that is very unique in this field. I am not one for really intense images, I wanted something softer and beautiful and I knew Sarah could do that!

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

It was way different than I expected. It was just a comfortable and fun experience.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

My favorite part was the posing. It made me feel like I was a model in a photoshoot. So fun!

8) How has the response been to your images?

I loved them! I had a hard time picking my favorites for sure.

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Just do it! You will not regret it! You will have beautiful images of yourself forever and these images are classy and timeless so you can display them in your home for years to come. This was one of my favorite things I have ever done for myself, I will be doing these again in the future for sure.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Yes, I thought, "I look SO amazing!" when I saw these images. I saw a new side of myself that I don't see on a daily basis. These images will be a reminder to me to stop and see how beautiful I am in the midst of all the busyness in life.

New Boudoir studio sneak peek!

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

The new boudoir studio is up and running! We are still conveniently located in midtown Atlanta - just down the street from the last studio, and ON the Atlanta Belt Line!  I am in love. In the midst of the moving/looking at all of the new ways to fill the space, I haven't been able to post much/think much/do much. Buuuuuuut I can't keep these to myself any longer. Here are a few sneak peeks!!

The main area, with floor to ceiling windows!! Check out that view.. :)

Posing while pregnant...one client's story | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

While maternity boudoir sessions are becoming more and more of an occurrence in my studio (especially for those clients that got knocked up as a result of their stunning photos hahahah), this session was a little different when it comes to 'pregnancy boudoir'.

It doesn't happen often, but every now and then I get a panicked call from a client. This call usually goes something like this:

"Ohmygoodness I just found out that I am pregnant and I need to come in for a boudoir session within the next hour or day or week before my body starts to show!!!"

I love it, and it definitely gives the session a different sort of milestone in the lives of my clients. How neat to be able to look back at your boudoir session and see the beginnings of your child's life?

For this client, that happened exactly... read about her experience below!

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

28

2) What do you do for a living?

Regulatory for a Medical Device company.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

Been wanting to do it for a while, and after I found out I was pregnant, I finally decided "It's now or never!"

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

Body image insecurities. [I'm] not good at posing and [tend to make] awkward faces in photos.

5) Why did you choose OWN?

LOVED Sarah's work and the way she elegantly captures a woman's natural beauty.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

A lot less nerve-wracking than I thought especially being almost (if not completely) naked in front of a stranger. But, having only the photographer there makes it more comfortable. Posing is hard, foreal.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Everything, really. But seeing the images was really special and shows the fruit of your labor [before I go into actual labor!]. I kept saying, "Dang! Is that really me?!" Sarah is amazing at what she does!!!

8) How has the response been to your images?

Response has been great. Nothing but goooooooood feedback :] Especially from the hubby.

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

You don't need the "perfect" body to do this. Just as the name of the studio states, its about your OWN beauty.  Whether you do it for yourself or for someone else this was such an empowering experience and one I would recommend every women to try. If you are doing this for a special someone, think of ways to make the outfits more meaningful, so the photos are more personalized.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Learned to love my own skin and embrace what I feel are my imperfections. Being sexy is more than just the outfit I may (or may not be) wearing, but the confidence that comes out of me.

Happy little accidents.. | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Let's just say that if you're getting a little undressed in front of the camera with someone you may not have met before then you PROBABLY don't want there to be any accidents. For the most part, no one has been harmed in the making of any of these photos :)

However, an accident can happen sometimes and the result is one you never would have thought to 'accidentally' create on your own. What makes an image a unique "holy crap this is my favorite images taken in my entire life up tot his point in time" type of photograph can sometimes be a flaw or an error...

And cue Bob Ross...

Those flaws and errors are just 'happy little accidents'.

We rip a lot of thigh-highs in this studio. At first we ripped them on accident (always bring a back up!), but after loving this image and the rip that is so suggestive, we've started to rip thigh-highs on purpose.

"This helped me..." | Client interview | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

You get tired of hearing from me, right? Of course you do! Let's change it up a bit and let you hear from a real person (not that I photograph artificial persons, haha!).

It's so refreshing to hear from other women that have gone through this boudoir experience. Boudoir does have the power to enhance your view of yourself, read for yourself! And if you're interested in finding out more about boudoir, get in touch! I'll do my best to answer all of your questions and I can even help you find the right photographer should I not be the one for you!

Thanks for reading! Now.... on to this lovely woman's personal account:

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

Well I’m 28… but at 14 I believe I was in love with N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, & Britney (I still am)

2) What do you do for a living?

I am a sales profession in luxury retail.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I wanted to do something special for my fiancé for his wedding gift. I also wanted to do it for myself. When I was tossing the idea around, I came across Sarah's website/blog and immediately fell in love with the photos and thought “could I do that?”. I thought “What the hell… if it’s a total disaster, I’ll pretend it never happened."

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I’m not 100% with my body/self-confidnece, but who is really? I was nervous of having all of my imperfections highlighted. I don’t look in the mirror and think “Damn I look good.” So I was hesitate to believe I’d actually like the photos. (Not to mention getting down to my bare ass in front of another person whom was not my fiancé)

5) Why did you choose OWN?

I chose OWN because Sarah's photos are absolutely stunning. EVERY SINGLE shot I looked at on her blog was phenomenal. Each and every one of those women were not only beautiful, but looked like they FELT beautiful. Her shots are artistic and classy. Each looked catered to the own individual woman with Sarah’s own artistic touch.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

It was actually a lot different than what I had imagined… for the better! I was worried I wouldn’t do it right and that I’d be uncomfortable the whole time. But from the very second I walked in the door I felt at ease. While it was a total BLAST, it was also hard work. I have a new appreciation for models (not that I’m comparing myself to a model) but all the posing and tilting and arching… I was sore the next morning. Barre shakes take on a whole new meaning when you’re doing a shoot with Sarah!

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

While seeing the images was AH-mazing, I think the best part was the actual shoot. She would give me some sneak peeks here and there and I’m over here like “WHAT?! OMG I’M SO PRETTY!” And that gave me a confidence boost to strut my stuff for her camera! I left that day feeling like a million bucks. We laughed and had champagne (which calmed my nerves a lot, but really I just LOVE champagne) and had an unforgettable and exceptional experience together.

8) How has the response been to your images?

While I haven’t shown them to my fiancé yet (SHHH! — He’ll see them the night of our wedding) I’ve shown some close friends and family. EVERYONE is dying over them! I haven’t had one negative response or anything short of absolute awe over them. I cannot wait to see his face when he sees them! (I’m literally having to force myself not to show him early).

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! I originally did this for my fiancé, but really now that it’s all done… I got more out of it. I feel sexy and glamorous. If I am every feeling down about myself or having a rough day, I look at those photos and instantly smile. It might sound a little conceded or egotistical—but women today (myself included) are so body-concious and we get caught up in the day-to-day grind that we forget to take time for ourselves. We need to love ourselves and appreciate our bodies. This helped me do that, and still does.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

As mentioned above, Sarah has helped me to see my own beauty. I am comfortable in my skin and proud of my body. I would totally wear lingerie to work if I could! Ha!

A wardrobe option to fall all over | Atlanta boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Let's talk about Fall. This glorious season in which it's just cool enough to wear some layers and just warm enough to get to choose how many layers you want to wear. For Atlanta, summer is brutal for fashion. We carry changes of clothes in our cars for when we inevitably sweat through whatever we're wearing.

Fall is amazing. We can finally curate outfits that look like they are straight out of a fashion-blogger's closet instead of the set of the Walking Dead... plus there's the whole 'smell of fires and leaves and festivals'.

While boudoir photography isn't exactly a seasonal activity, there are specific wardrobe requests that have a more seasonal feel to them! One such request is the classic big-ol' sweater. The sweater-look is one of those wardrobe ideas that, while extremely simple, can be molded and changed to match any personality! There are chunky sweaters, long sweaters, sheer sweaters, off the shoulder sweaters, holey (not the religious kind) sweaters, tight sweaters, ....you get the picture :)
