Here's a new way to get information about your boudoir session! | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

We may be a few months late (or....maybe we are right on time), but I've finally figured out a great way to make it easier for you to access specific information about boudoir sessions with OWN!

Check out our Instagram, but more specifically check out our Instagram Highlights.

Instagram highlights are a version of Instagram Stories, but think of them as more specific versions of our stories. If Instagram Stories are the overall novel of our day, the Highlights are the chapters within the novel...only those chapters can stay around for as long as I decide, regardless if the entire rest of the novel is missing.

(Honestly this is the best way I can describe it, so I hope it helps! )

Our Instagram Highlights are centered around four subjects that are specifically related to OWN boudoir (or boudoir photography in general). These boudoir stories are a perfect way for you to find out very specific details on a variety of subjects when you're planning your boudoir session. If you don't feel like reading through 6 years of blogs for information, then these stories are for you.

(Although, 6 years of info is a LOT fo info, so if you've got some time on your hands or just feel like being extra prepared then you should start reading now. )

Here's what you can find on our Instagram Highlights:

So... come see me on my stories. ;) I promise to be a really entertaining booby-booty photographer.

Check out our new studio piece... | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

I've wanted a new piece of furniture for our boudoir studio for a while. However, I knew that any new piece I added would need to have a function to it. Storage is all that I could come up with, until I saw a neighborhood posting.

While growing up my parents made my brothers and I (there are three of us all together) take piano lessons. I say "made" because we would kick and scream in order to avoid practicing, and my parents would watch us (or close the door) until we stopped and reluctantly touched the keys again.

Fast forward to many years later (mannnyyyyyyyy years), I have a new appreciation for piano and I actually miss playing. I miss playing so much that I knew immediately that my new piece of "furniture" would actually need to be a piano. A piano neeeeeeeded to be in my life. I could not only revisit a semi-beloved creative outlet, I could have a killer prop for the boudoir studio. Plus, I'm of course going to teach my clients piano lessons during their boudoir sessions. Duh.

Well, my dreams came true and my habit of perusing internet yard-sale sites paid off.

I found a piano.

The story of how I actually GOT this piano and was able to move it in to my studio (I think it weighs 700lbs) is something that you'll have to ask me at your boudoir session.

For now, it's working as a great addition to our studio and my musical brain.

La la la la la,

Sarah

Confidence doesn't always come with a bodysuit ... |Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

First of all, if your asking about this bodysuit the let me just say: it is the best bodysuit ever. It photographs incredibly different of each body, had the perfect elasticity, and OH YES that see-through fabric. It’s from Maison Close and it’s the bomb for boudoir (and the shower and just walking around in general sensuality).

Now on to the main event.

This gorgeous client came in to see us with intentions of giving the gift of a boudoir session to her long-distance boyfriend (edited to add he is no longer long distance!). She ended up giving us the gift of a perfect eyeshadow (it’s a metallic glitter shadow from Stila) and an open mind for her session. Read her words, see her life, the variety of wardrobes, and how client interview (like this very one!) helped her make her decision for OWN!

She shared with her partner, she shared with her friends, and now she is sharing with you! Take this privilege and run with it, just like she did. Never hide how beautiful you are!

Text me for the link to that bodysuit,

Sarah

Based on all of the client interviews I read before my shoot, it was exactly what I expected. 7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

This is a hard one! The entire experience was absolutely amazing. I think my favorite parts were getting ready and seeing the images. It was a blast getting ready with Sarah and Hope- so relaxing and the conversation was great. And then of course I was completely blown away during the viewing!

A major announcement RIGHT NOW! | Atlanta Boudoir photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

We are excited to announce an alternative option for OWN boudoir clients! Starting in April, in addition to being able to book your boudoir session with OWN’s owner and lead photographer, Sarah, clients will now have the option of booking with OWN’s new associate photographer Emma.

Emma has been working as a photographer in Athens for a few years and has had her OWN boudoir session with Sarah! We’ve recently brought her on as an associate photographer in order to provide an alternative budget option for clients that prefer OWN's unique style and wouldn't want to go anywhere else!

Having been photographed by OWN and Sarah before, Emma brings a unique knowledge and experience to our team. Clients that book with Emma will have a photographer that knows first-hand how to make sure you see your own beauty! She’s encouraging, incredibly easy going, and extremely particular with posing (a major detail!).

Our associate photographer sessions are $550 and include a one-hour session in studio, two wardrobe looks, and 10 high-resolution digital images with print release.

A deposit of $225 due at the time of booking to hold your date and the remaining $225 is due on the day of your session!

All boudoir sessions will take place in our beautiful Atlanta studio where we have hardwood floors, brick walls, and a ton of natural light!

Trusting the process.. | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Sometimes the process of having your boudoir session is just as important as the resulting images. Yes, you look beautiful. Yes, the angles and lighting and champagne were ALL a big fan of you. However, sometimes it's the process itself that means the most.

Reading through the words of my clients is one of my favorite things to do. While we get to talk and connect at your session, reading what clients have intentionally put on to paper (or...you know, a virtual paper) is incredibly special to me. Those words are chosen, thought about, and given to me. They create thoughts of joy, excitement, criticisms, nervousness, revelry, and humor!

Receiving the "client interview" back (which is what we call it here at the studio since we are soooo creative) is exciting because we get to read through intentional thoughts. The "client interview" is exciting for YOU guys, as clients and potential clients, because you have the ability to listen to someone else's experience and possibly find a commonality, ever how small, that speaks to you.

This current interview is full of a very real approach to the process behind her booking a boudoir session with OWN (and at all!). She is amazing, and I'm so lucky to have been able to be the catalyst to her finding the "beautiful person [that] has been lurking underneath".

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

42. I'm less embarrassed by my age than what I was listening to at age 14. :)

2) What do you do for a living?

I'm a freelance writer and Pilates teacher.

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I've probably been wanting to book a session for at least five years, maybe more. I have Pinterest boards dedicated to it. I just never knew who to go to or had the confidence to go for it. A friend of mine booked a session for her 40th and shared a couple of her photos, so I decided to book a session for myself. Having a mutual friend recommend services was key.

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

I grew up doing choir and theatre and work in fitness, so had no issues about my body or being in front of something else half naked. My main concern was about posing, and the photos not looking contrived or silly or unnatural. But Sarah's directions were so precise, everything felt natural and easy and comfortable.

5) Why did you choose OWN?

A personal recommendation from a friend, plus the message of body acceptance--more than acceptance really. Celebration. Of embracing who and where you are right now. That sense of empowerment plus the stunning images really sold me.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

Posing was hard! At least holding the poses. It was kind of like being in a yoga class, but in lingerie. Also, I'm surprised I managed to look so sexy when I was really laughing the whole time!

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Actually, the shoot itself. It was so fun and empowering. I had the best time. Even seeing the preview of the shots was enough for me. I loved the final images, but for me, embracing the process was the height of my experience.

8) How has the response been to your images?

Well, they were my most liked photos on Instagram in 2017! Hahaha. Some people said that they thought it was an ad when they were scrolling through. Mostly, it made me want to put on lingerie, drink champagne, have my hair and makeup done, and take sexy photos every day!

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Go for it! Don't wait until you feel you've lost those last five pounds. Embrace who you are right now. Or as I say, now that I'm in my 40s, you're never going to be as young and hot as you are right this very moment! But really, it was a super empowering and confidence boosting experience I think everyone should embrace.

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

For sure. I have struggled with disordered eating most of my life. I teach fitness and am a fairly competitive runner and STILL find ways to beat myself up or bash my appearance almost daily. Seeing myself from afar--through the lens of another, literally--made me realize that beauty and confidence aren't about the size of your jeans or your age or the number on the scale. Beauty is confidence and embracing who and where you are in the moment. And yes, it was nice to have someone do my hair and makeup and shoot my best angles, but that beautiful person has always been lurking there underneath. I just needed to find her.

What if you saw your flaws as something else? | Client Interview | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

What if we saw our flaws and instead of wanting to change them we wanted to flaunt them? That's exactly the feeling this recent boudoir client had!

Seriously, reading about the mental transformation that happens after your boudoir session is really encouraging to me (and hopefully to others reading this that are interested in boudoir!). Boudoir is so much more than nude photos and sexy photos. It is an empowering experience. Boudoir sessions allow you to see yourself from a different angle (literally and figuratively!!). You see facets of your personality and sensuality that you've never quite believed were there. You see angles of your body that genuinely represent how you physically look.... which is quite beautiful, by the way.

In this client interview she enlightens us to her pre and post views of herself. In her private feedback with me she suggested that I do a before/after of clients... not because we believe you're super-helped by our magical wand, but because it can be hard to realize that not everyone you see walks around everyday looking glamorous with a fabulous ass.

Read on and get your glamorous ass in here for a shoot...

1) How old are you... or if you prefer, who were you listening to at age 14 :)?

I’m 34 ( at 14 I was obsessed with No Doubt and Tupac)

2) What do you do for a living?

I’m a software engineer

3) What/who made you decide to book a boudoir session?

I had recently ran across old photos and I remembered the  negative thoughts I had of my body. Yet now looking back, I realize how wrong those thoughts were. So I decided I wanted some sexy photos to look back on at 60 and be like yeah that’s me.

atlanta boudoir photographer, boudoir photo, boudoir pose, own boudoir, atlanta photographer, chicago boudoir, dallas boudoir (4 of 4).jpg

4) Did you have any obstacles or fears about boudoir?

Yes!! I had recently lost 40lbs so it was hard to see myself in a new light and I felt like it might show on camera.

5) Why did you choose OWN?

When I went to the website every single photo was amazing. It didn’t matter body size, scars, age, etc, they  were all just amazing.

6) How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?

I really thought I would be nervous but I got there and you made me feel like we had been roommates in college, so you had already seen me change clothes before. I remember we were talking as I was changing clothes one time and I just opened the door so we could chat easier, and it didn’t even matter.

7) What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (priming, the shoot, seeing images, giving the images..etc)

Seeing the images as I went along. It really helped me relax even more.

atlanta boudoir photographer, boudoir photo, boudoir pose, own boudoir, atlanta photographer, chicago boudoir, dallas boudoir (2 of 4).jpg

8) How has the response been to your images?

Only positive, and that kind of positive that has people in like high pitch voices.

9) What is your advice for women interested in such a session?

Just do it! If that means you have to skip buying those extra shoes to save for it, then do it because it’ll be worth so much more than anything you could buy

10) Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of this session?

Yes!!! First I see myself as sexy. But most importantly, things I use to see as flaws I see them now as something that makes me beautifully unique.

What should I call this? | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

I need your help. How do I define my personal project? What do I name it? It isn't boudoir, but it grew from boudoir.

My personal project for 2018 (if you haven't seen) is centered around scars. This project has already begun, but I need a name for it. Or a focus, or a hashtag, or ANYTHING. These images will be on a separate Instagram page from my current OWN boudoir instagram, though I'll be referencing them for the entirety of the project.

What are your suggestions? Email me, text me, call me, or comment below.

Love, Sarah.

Live from Boston!!! | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

I'm in Boston, and it is cold AF

However.... tomorrow I start my last boudoir photoshoots of 2018 and I am SO excited. Really it's a cool thing to have clients that love their experience with OWN boudoir enough to refer me out to their other fiends in different cities. My boyfriend is also out here for work, though he will be here for an entire month. Bless his heart. I don't think I could survive a month with sub-15degree weather,   but I digress.

Shooting boudoir in different places is incredibly rewarding for me. I experience different light, a variety of climates, various settings.... it really is a creative mind's dream!

Anyway... that's an update of what I'm doing. Cheers to three days left of 2017!!!

After dark (and work!) | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

How do you boudoir images look when you're coming in for your boudoir session in Atlanta during the winter, or even after work?

Here in Atlanta not only has it gotten significantly colder in the past few days, but in the past few weeks it seems like it's getting significantly darker at... oh, say 3PM????????

What is this nonsense?

Of course, it isn't actually getting dark at 3pm, more like 5:30 or so, but for this Atlanta boudoir photographer it definitely means that a lot of our boudoir sessions must take place after dark.

When our clients are searching for inspiration photos for their boudoir session it is often that a majority of them will have a bright, lighter feel to them. For someone who is coming in after work, say 6pm, for their session we KNOW they are worried that the images they really love will be near impossible to get.

Fear not! The great power of lighting is to the rescue! Leave it up to us to whip up some lighting sorcery for your session so that if you can't make it into the studio until after work you are still able to have an amazing set of images that YOU love.

*Disclaimer: I can't fake a sun-filled window at 7pm at night, so maybe let's forgo those images ;)

Here are some examples of recent night-time boudoir session

Wine down | Atlanta Boudoir

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

We all want to be this hot while drinking wine, right? Also... replace "wine" with smoothie, coffee, water, SmartWater (bc it's diff than regular water), or literally any emulsified substance. This boudoir session had us tipping our hats to the natural state of her existence: Wine and sweaters!!!!

Also: this sweater is in our boudoir closet...and it is from amazon...AND it is $12.

Happy holidays, you're welcome ;)

Hanging in there | Atlanta Boudoir Photography

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Hey guys, it's the weekend, it's the end of the year, and it is COLD. We're all stressed. Our bodies hurt, our emotions hurt, our schedules are screaming at us. As a boudoir photographer (and a boudoir photographer in ATLANTA) this month has been crazy. Add the snow in there (oh yeah, ATL got some dust) and you have a logistical nightmare.

Hang in there.

We're all in it together and we will all come out on the other side!!!

Enjoy this time and try to see joy in all of the chaos of December. Because, LAWD, ain't it chaotic?

Lova ya,

Sarah

Do I need to bring my own lingerie? A FAQ post | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Outside of "will you tell me what to do with my face?" likely our second most-asked question is "Do I need to bring in my own lingerie?".

This question probably gets asked by 90% of my clients. Think about it: lingerie shopping isn't nearly as habitual as your weekly trip to Target (that always ends in buying an entirely new wardrobe). Lingerie is an afterthought for us, and I'll bet some of you still have underwear from 2012. (guilty). The thing is, lingerie is often an afterthought. If it is an afterthought then OF COURSE you probably don't have any. Then, you book your boudoir session and suddenly the panic sets in.

"Oh lawd, I don't have any lingerie aside from an old Victoria's secret robe that I bought in college for that boyfriend that definitely didn't deserve me"

Well, you're in luck because we are here to help.

The answer to the "do I need to bring in my own items" is both ‘yes’ and ‘no’.

atlanta boudoir photography, boudoir wardrobe ideas, sweater boudoir, tall socks boudoir, atlanta boudoir

Bringing your own lingerie is crucial if you have specific pieces and styles that you are really wanting to be photographed in because I may not be able to match them with the items I have in my boudoir closet.

In my boudoir closet (in-studio! These are not my personal lingerie pieces :) ) I do have corsets, button-up shirts, fur shawls, lace and satin robes, some one-pieces, garter belts, and replacement panty hose/thigh highs, and high-heels. We are constantly updating the closet, and often clients will leave their lingerie with us as a donation. Woo hoo!!! Fret not, though, it's all cleaned.

atlanta boudoir photography, boudoir wardrobe, wardrobe ideas, boudoir poses, classy boudoir atlanta

For the most part if you ARE looking for a specific lingerie look you will need to bring in those pieces, but if you are interested in just ‘showing up’ and living on the other side of my lens I can absolutely help you out in the wardrobe department...you may even find an item that you would have never tried before (like a garter belt!), but that ends up being your favorite!

Once your session is booked we have a completely open dialogue about your wardrobe. As we are planning, ask me what styles/sizes/etc we have have and if it would be available to you! Trust me when I say it will help you to not have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off trying to find a sheer fabric panel or 34 strands of pearls or body paint or black pumps or a lace robe or the perfect white button up or ______ or _____ or _____. You name it.

If you’d like to bring your own lingerie but have NO idea where to search for items that you need then check out this blog post on where to shop for your boudoir session! We can easily make a phone call for you and set up an appointment at one of our favorite stores :) You may even get a little discount incentive from them for being a referral!

Bubbling with excitement | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Every now and then I get a wild and crazy idea (pleasseeee say that in the Two Wild and Crazy Guys voices).

For some odd reason my current wild and crazy idea has to do with altering the environment of my studio with mediums usually used for something else. Take for instance a fog machine. A Fog machine isn't exactly a typical boudoir studio feature. Mostly we're used to them at haunted houses, EDM shows, or our high-school proms. Lately, however, I've been wanting to bring in a fog machine for boudoir. No clue how this would work, it may end up looking more creepy than cool, but you never know until you try! I'm currently on hiatus from trying the fog machine until I figure out whether or not the sprinklers in my Atlanta boudoir studio would be triggered. That's one fast way to a headache and a mega bill from the fire department.

This past weekend while we were at my boyfriend's family's house, I saw a lonely little bubble machine sitting in the corner by another very lonely popcorn machine (more on that later). A lightbulb went off and I started dreaming of ways to use that giant neon-green and purple toy. A bubble machine could be completely cheesy and hilarious, or with the way light fractures and other science stuff, it could be AMAZZZZINNNNNGGGGG.

So, my boyfriend brought the bubble machine home. I stocked up on bubble fluid (which is gross and sticky BTW) and proposed to my client to let me experiment with her. I clarified that the experiment would happen after we got the kick-ass shots that she came to me for. She agreed, and so after her session we altered the studio environment with a 5-yr old's birthday party toy.

I LOVE the results and am dreaming up of other ways to use the lil bubs for boudoir. I'm making a list :)

Here is a sneak peek at what today's boudoir session's experimental phase looked like:

Fur coat time... | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Here in Atlanta the temperatures have finally gotten below 75degrees (most of the time). What does that mean? It means we're in full swing for fall boudoir shoot time! This season is typically full of boudoir clients looking for wedding gifts, anniversary gifts, sexy photos for under the tree, and sexy photos "just because". I'm a huge fan of the "just because"... because I love to treat myself and I love when others treat themselves!

I love seeing the different lingerie items, and NON lingerie items, that grace the suitcases of my boudoir clients! This past weekend we got to play around with a fur coat. Holy moly glam, can we just say that she looks like she could strut down ANY red carpet that she needed to? Hell yes!!! I'm officially on board for bringing in fur coats to your boudoir session!

Classic and timeless | Atlanta Boudoir Photography

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

Piggy-backing off of yesterday's blog post that covered my newfound (or resurrected) love for photographing unique and sensual details during my client's boudoir sessions, here are a couple of images that immediately came to our minds.

What I'd love to do is print a series of detail images from my boudoir clients and hang them HUGE in my Atlanta studio. Why not decorate with your own work, right?

A little something just for you! | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

We ask SO many (like soooooooooooooooooo many. so. so. many.) questions to our clients during the planning and preparation stage of their boudoir session.

What images are you most drawn to?

Are there any props you plan on bringing?

What kind of snacks and beverages would you like to have at your session?

Have you ever had your hair and makeup done before?

What has prompted you to book this boudoir session?

That last question is often answered with stories of anniversaries, weddings, life milestones, birthdays, etc. A lot of times this boudoir session is done with the goal of gifting the images to a current significant other (or future!!! Bc you just NEVER KNOW). However, even though my lovely clients speak about gifting the images, most (read: all) of the time the underlying and real reason that they have booked a boudoir session is for themselves.

Cue the whole 'How Stella got her groove back' soundtrack on repeat.

Part of your boudoir session is sitting with me (Sarah!) and selecting your images. After doing this for the better part of a decade I started to notice a trend... so many of my clients are choosing images with the thought of someone else in mind. They leave images of themselves that they've fallen in love with on the cutting room floor in order to select ones that someone else will fall in love with. Of course they love the images we choose together, but I wanted to figure out a way for all current or future parties to be happy!

Enter the Little Black Book.

Starting last week I've created an option for my clients to not only have amazing images that they love to gift to someone else but to ALSO have images that they'd love to gift to themselves!

The Little Black Book is a 5x5 album that is available as a $250 add-on to any of the image purchases my clients make. It is also available complimentary to some of our bundled collections of albums and digitals! Woot woot!

Think of it as a perfect way for you to not have to leave any images behind, a way to create the perfect 'travel' album, a way to be generous when you meet someone deserving, a way for you to keep some of the –ahem– dirtier images in their own separate book, or a way for you to keep your favorites close by at all times for when you need a little "HELL YES I AM HOT AS F***" pick-me-up.

Either way... it's just for you!

Treat yo' self,

Sarah

Why I wear yoga pants for boudoir | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

Posted on by sarahwitherington@gmail.com

When you show up for your boudoir session and I look like I'm ready to pack my bags and head out of Atlanta for a yoga retreat know that there is a reason behind my wardrobe choices.

I present to you, exhibit A:

atlanta boudoir, boudoir atlanta, boudoir session atlanta, lingerie photographer
atlanta boudoir, boudoir atlanta, boudoir session atlanta, lingerie photographer, wardrobe

YA'LL!!!

The ONE day that I try to look cute and wear something with a zipper and without lycra I end up busting out of it while trying to show a client how to stick her a** out.

I'd say it's because I have too much junk in my trunk but there has never been a more false statement.

Here I am wearing my client's nightie that she brought for her session so that I could finish the rest of her shoot fully (ish) clothed.

So... when you see me in yoga pants, that's why. I don't want to bring a different meaning to 'lingerie photographer'. ;)

Keep your (yoga) pants on,

Sarah
